The Wrigley Building

On the north side of the Michigan Avenue Bridge sits Chicago's iconic Wrigley Building.

Located in a commanding position at the base of North Michigan Avenue, this amazing building was commissioned by the Wrigley chewing gum company and completed in 1924. The white terra cotta exterior was inspired by the famed White City, part of the World’s Columbian Exposition of 1893 (which Chicago hosted). There are actually six shades of white terra cotta which become brighter as you move up the building. At night, The Wrigley Building is brightly illuminated and the white terra cotta facade seems to glow. As an aside, the four-sided clock on the tower keeps good time!

Wrigley maintained its global headquarters here until 2012, when it moved it's staff to a new facility on Chicago's Goose Island. Today, it is still used as an office building, with retail on the ground level.

Part of that retail space includes a Ghirardelli Ice Cream & Chocolate Shop. If you have a taste for something sweet, stop-in for a World Famous Hot Fudge Sundae, ice cream cone, shake or other delicious soda fountain creation. Don't miss their second floor seating area with excellent river views. Of course, you can pick-up some Ghirardelli chocolate as well!

Our next stop, The Tribune Tower, can be seen just across Michigan Avenue.
