Audio Tour

Begin your Grant Park tour at the Art Institute of Chicago. You’ll need fresh legs to wander the halls of this outstanding collection of art. With the addition of the 264,000 square foot Modern Wing, the Art Institute is now the second largest art museum in the United States.

The original Art Institute building was designed by architects Shepley, Rutan & Coolidge. You'll easily recognize the museum's historic Michigan Avenue entrance by the two stately lions standing guard. There is also an entrance to the museum -- often less crowded -- via the Modern Wing. The Modern Wing entrance is located just to the north on Monroe Street.

The Art Institute has everything from Egyptian, Oriental, and Asian sculptures to one of the finest collections of impressionist art in the world. In addition to the Monet’s and Renoir’s (among others), you’ll find medieval art, renaissance art, the fine 17th century Dutch artists, classic American artists such as Andy Warhol and Edward Hopper, and just about everything in between.

The Modern Wing, designed by famed architect Renzo Piano, is home to the museum's collection of 20th and 21st century art.
