CHINATOWN
If you're looking to explore a unique neighborhood just south of the Loop, Chicago's Chinatown is the place for you! Centered around 22nd Street (Cermak Road) and Wentworth Avenue, Chinatown is a relatively compact area with easy access from the city. (For information on the broader South Loop area, please see our South Loop Neighborhood Guide.)

During your visit to Chinatown you'll find numerous restaurants (with great dim sum!), shops (which sell everything from jade, ginseng and herbs to woks, knick-knacks and Chinese fans), grocery stores, bakeries, interesting architecture and numerous locals going about their daily lives.

Notable Chinatown events include the annual Chinese New Year celebration, featuring a large parade down Wentworth Avenue, and the summertime dragon boats races. The dragon boat races are held at Ping Tom Memorial Park along the south brance of the Chicago River. No matter the time of year, Chicago's Chinatown is a great neighborhood to explore!

Getting to Chinatown
To get to Chinatown, take the CTA Red Line to the Cermak-Chinatown stop. The CTA Red Line is the city's main North-South rapid transit route. To catch the Red Line while in the Loop, enter the subway at various locations on State Street. Once in the subway, take a southbound 95th/Dan Ryan train. Note that the Cermak-Chinatown station is an above-ground stop, and is the first stop after emerging from the downtown subway.

Given the proximity to the downtown area, a taxi or ride share from the Loop is also an excellent alternative for reaching Chinatown.
